THIRTY MONTHS FOR NEW MINAS THIEVES

Friday, July 30, 2010, New Minas, NS…Three men arrested by RCMP after a five-store shoplifting spree in New Minas, which temporarily netted them goods in excess of $20 000, will spend the next 30 months behind bars in a Federal Institution.

David Phillip LeFave (34), of Maple Street, Bedford, Corey James Walker (30), of Gordon Avenue, Halifax, and Troy Douglas Straight (29), of McAlpine Avenue, Halifax received their sentences yesterday in Provincial Court in Kentville.

The three men entered guilty pleas to the single count of Theft Over $5000 and to the four counts of Theft Under $5000 they were each faced with. A single charge of possession of Property Obtained by Crime against each man was withdrawn.

On Tuesday, a motorist reported seeing a shiny object on the side of the 101 Highway to an member of the RCMP who was on patrol in the area. The member accompanied the motorist to the item and located a sock containing seventy pieces of gold jewelry bearing store tags from Zellers believed to be taken as a result of the shoplifting. All of the items were returned to the store.
